Katia Bulbenko works at the intersection of painting and sculpture. She creates 3-dimensional mixed media fiber assemblages using painted canvas and silk, printed fabric that she designs, beads, wire, thread, and other materials that bring her joy. In creating these objects, Katia draws on her experiences as a printmaker and textile designer. Her influences are organic forms in nature and a burgeoning, pulsing sense of universal life. These abstract constructions are experiments with color, form, texture, composition and layering; microcosms which become their own realms. Katia received the Excellence in Fiber Award in her first time exhibiting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show.
